Breathtaking scenes of northern Mexico set the stage for video game Mulaka, where players must fight back a foulness corrupting the land.
The 3D action-adventure game is based on the rich indigenous culture of Mexico’s Tarahumara, and players take the perspective of a shaman, or Sukurúame, who draws from the power of the region’s demigods to solve puzzles in environments inspired by real Sierra Tarahumara locations, and engage in hand-to-hand combat with creatures from the region’s mythology to fight corruption across the land.
The launch trailer shows fast-paced gameplay and features gorgeous scenery that pays homage to the rich culture.
It will also feature dialogue in the native Tarahumara tongue, and Chihuahua-based video game development studio Lienzo consulted with anthropologists and Tarahumara elders to lend authenticity to the gaming experience, GameSpace reports.
Mulaka is available on PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch and XBox One.
