T-shirts are big business at Walmart, and topping that business is a recently added line of licensed “Duck Dynasty” apparel. And the A&E “Duck”-themed shirts are only the beginning for a show that is quickly creating a licensed merchandise empire.
A&E‘s hit reality show about duck call makers is already represented in Walmart’s apparel, home goods and sporting goods departments and is looking to expand into 13 departments by the holiday season, with some products that go well beyond the usual array of DVDs and clothes. Some items in the works include “Duck Dynasty” Halloween costumes for dogs and antibacterial bandages featuring popular quips from the series’ regulars.
“Duck” star family the Robertsons used to be suppliers to Walmart, offering up their company Duck Commander’s line of VHS instructional duck-hunting tapes.

Brief Take: You gotta love licensed merchandising, perhaps the only platform across which a show gets paid to market itself. “Duck Dynasty” is getting paid to market itself many times over.
