When the Garvey sisters’ brother-in-law, John Paul, is found dead, his life insurance company sets out to prove malicious intent and sets its sights on the sisters – who did, it turns out, have plenty of reasons to kill him.
“Everything bad that could have happened, has happened,” Horgan’s character assures one of the sisters during the funeral. “Except that,” she says, as the strap holding the casket breaks and one end of it plunges into the grave.
The trailer is scored with Brandi Carlile’s “Raise Hell.”
Dark comedy Bad Sisters comes from Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe), who writes, executive produces and stars. Besides Horgan, the ten-episode comedy also stars Anne-Marie Duff (Sex Education), Eva Birthistle, Sarah Geene and Eve Hewson as the sisters. Claes Bang, Brian Gleeson, Daryl McCormack, Assaad Bouab and newcomer Saise Quinn round out the cast.
Bad Sisters marks Horgan’s first project to premiere out of her first-look deal with Apple TV Plus. It’s produced by Horgan’s Merman production company. Horgan worked with Brett Baer and Dave Finkel to adapt it from the Belgian version of the series Clan, which was created by Malin-Sarah Gozin. Horgan, Faye Dorn and Clelia Mountford executive produce for Merman; and Gozin, Bert Hamelinck and Michael Sagol executive produce for Caviar. In addition to Horgan, Baer and Finkel, the series is written by Karen Cogan, Ailbhe Keogan, Daniel Cullen, Perrie Balthazar and Paul Howard. Dearbhla Walsh, Josephine Bornebusch and Rebecca Gatward serve as directors. Walsh also serves as executive producer. Bad Sisters is produced by Merman Television and ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios.
Bad Sisters premieres globally with the first two episodes on Friday, August 19 on Apple TV Plus.
