“Everybody gotta eat,” in FX’s trailer for the return of Donald Glover’s Atlanta.
Dubbed Atlanta Robbin Season, the second chapter of the series refers to the time of between Christmas and New Year when people are scrambling for money and holiday gifts, and will do whatever it takes to food on their plates. Packages tend to disappear from front steps, and there’s a general spike in crime.
It marks a time of intensity, and desperate transitions, which serves as a metaphor for the show’s characters as they content with sudden fame and how it relates to their previous lives, said creator, writer and star Donald Glover at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
Glover plays a Princeton dropout working his way through the Atlanta music scene by managing his cousin and aspiring rapper Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry.)
Essentially, season two is about “am I going to be a drug dealer, or am I going to be a celebrity?” Glover said.
Atlanta Robbin Season also takes a different approach from season one by featuring episodes that each stand on their own, but come together to tell a cohesive story.
The new season will debut March 1 on FX.
