Small town locals get big-time makeovers in HBO’s new series, We’re Here.

But unlike similar series, these makeovers go far beyond a transformative haircut and wardrobe. Instead, three RuPaul’s Drag Race alums—Shangela Laquifa Wadley, Bob the Drag Queen and Eureka O’Hara—travel across the country to turn ordinary people into fierce queens.

The end result—beyond a one-night-only drag performance topped with extravagant wigs, makeup and wardrobes—is a renewed sense of love, empowerment and understanding for those involved.

“If I’m not willing to live in the shoes of someone who does drag, then how can I expect someone to understand my experience?” one subject says in the trailer, which HBO released on Friday.

And Shangela sums it up: “Honey, you can’t live for nobody but yourself.”

We’re Here premieres April 23 on HBO.
