CNN used the simple and recognizable look of a newspaper political cartoon to tell the story of a grumpy donkey and elephant—long-standing symbols of the Democratic and Republican parties—who come together while staying six feet apart.

The :15 spot—which CNN created with the help of Fig, House Special and Th3rd Sound—promotes the network’s upcoming coverage of the virtual political conventions, with the Democrats starting their convention on August 17 and the Republicans on August 24.

The spot, which is part of a larger campaign, will air on CNN’s online and social platforms. The network intends the two characters to show up in CNN’s on-air political coverage over the next few months, according to Variety.
