With Jodie Whittaker stepping in as the first female lead in Doctor Who, BBC America revealed an updated logo for the 11th season. It stands as an “iconic and powerful trademark for the franchise that is recognized all around the world,” and “marks a new era for the series,” according to a press release.

“The Doctor Who logo and insignia are the quintessential signifier for the brand,” BBC Worldwide Executive Creative Director Rafaela Perera said in a statement. “Our aim was to create modern and elegant designs that were anchored in the things that we love most about Doctor Who.”

BBC brought in creative agency Little Hawk for the design, while working closely with executive producer Matt Strevens and showrunner Chris Chibnall, who is new to the show this season.

The orange-gold logo includes a stylised streak representing the trail left behind by the show’s Tardis time-traveling machine as it blasts through space, as demonstrated in a short video (posted above) that debuted the design. British musician Matthew Herbert created the sound for the animation.

The logo is also displayed on a poster featuring a silhouette of Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, and is currently available on Doctor Who merchandise at selected retailers.

Season 11 of Doctor Who will premiere in fall 2018 on BBC America.
