BBC America got a great Christmas gift from The Doctor as the cult sci-fi fave “Doctor Who” holiday special delivered record ratings for the cable net.

The Christmas Day special episode, which saw the departure of Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor and the arrival of Peter Capaldi playing Doc #12 drew the channel’s best Live+SD telecast ever, with 2.5 million viewers, up 72 percent from last year’s Christmas special.

1.3 million viewers in the Adults 25-54 demo tuned in.

The ratings win give the channel one more feather in its cap for what has been a pretty good 2013.

The fourth quarter of the year saw its best Live+SD ratings performance ever, helped by the Doctor as well as “Orphan Black,” “Broadchurch,” and “In The Flesh.”
