As of Tuesday, Dish Network customers could lose access to 18 Media General TV stations after both parties failed to come to an agreement in a fee dispute. This comes one month after Dish’s retransmission-consent dispute with Raycom Media, and shortly after Time Warner Cable’s blackout of CBS this summer.

Dish’s previous deal with Media General was extended for 90 days after it was set to expire in June, but they have yet to reach an agreement.

This comes on the heels of news that Dish also also reached an impasse with Disney, and the two parties have come up with a short-term extension of their deal, which was set to expire Monday.

The deal allows Dish to keep Disney cable channels like ESPN, ABC Family and Disney Channel, as well as eight ABC TV stations.

Brief Take: Disputes over retransmission-consent fees continue to disrupt cable and satellite services for customers, and the distributor—not the programmer asking for higher fees—is usually on the losing end of the deal when it comes to customer relationships.
