Shark Week is (finally) just around the corner, and though Snuffy the Seal is no longer in danger this year, Discovery is preparing for the week-long event in other ways.
The first way? Celebrating with mermaids and surfing on the backs of sharks (above). In the newest Shark Week spot, “King of Summer,” which also serves as this year’s tagline, a man surfs with sharks while throwing chum into the ocean for the rest of their ocean friends.
Discovery’s Shark Week, the idea that originated as a sketch on a napkin, will kick off Aug. 10, so the network has already started rolling out social elements like its Shark Cup, even taking part in this week’s World Cup news:
