Discovery’s Josh Kovolenko has been promoted to senior vice president, marketing strategy and operations, for Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Science Channel. In his new role, he’ll oversee the marketing strategy and partnership group, the marketing production team and the marketing on-air operations for all three networks.
He’ll relocate from Maryland to Los Angeles in September, and continue to report to Lara Richardson, group executive vice president of marketing for Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Science Channel.
“Josh is an incredible leader, and one of the hardest working people I’ve had the pleasure to work with,” Richardson said in a statement. “I am overjoyed to have his knowledge and skill set across all three nets.”
Kovolenko has spent the past four years leading the marketing strategy team and has been crucial in managing projects such as campaigns for Shark Week and Harley and the Davidsons, as well as the global marketing rollout of Racing Extinction. He has also helped lead partnerships with major brands including MLB Network, Marriott Hotels, Southwest Airlines, Great Clips and Cold Stone Creamery.
He joined Discovery in 2008 as part the global events and brand activation team behind the network’s high profile events including Upfront presentations, MIPCOM and MIPTV, as well as the launch of Planet Green. In 2009 he joined Discovery’s internal creative agency where he continued to produce the Upfronts and supported marketing campaigns.
Prior to Discovery, Kovolenko managed domestic and international brand sponsorships and events for AOL.
