Denis Leary plans to “get famous being a songwriting dad” and there’s totally nothing wrong with his piano chops when season two of Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll returns to FX on June 30.
The musical comedy centers of “Johnny Rock” (Denis Leary), lead singer of a legendary early ‘90s New York band called The Heathens that was on the brink of becoming famous until they broke up, the same day their first album dropped, because lead guitarist Flash (John Corbett) found Johnny in bed with his wife.
Fast forward 25 years, when a talented young singer Gigi (Elizabeth Gillies) with throwback appreciation for The Heathens’ only album, bankrolls the band back into the studio. But this time around, she’s the lead singer and Johnny’s just a behind-the-scenes songwriter. John Ales, Bobby Kelly and Elaine Hendrix round out the rest of the dysfunctional rock and roll family.
Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll is created by Leary, who serves writer, composer, director and executive producer along with Jim Serpico. The series is produced by FX Productions and Fox 21 Television Studios.
