Debra Lee, who recently stepped down from her longtime role as BET Networks chairman and CEO, has been named the recipient of PromaxBDA’s 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award.

She’ll receive the recognition at the PromaxBDA Conference, taking place June 11 - 14 at the Hilton Midtown in New York City, as leading media companies and agencies gather for industry-leading insights, strategy, creativity and professional development.

“Debra Lee has been a trailblazer throughout her career, inspiring a generation of marketing and creative teams with her confident, compassionate, and visionary leadership,” said Steve Kazanjian, president and CEO, PromaxBDA. “In a year when we are celebrating the theme of ‘real change’ at the PromaxBDA Conference, there is no one more fitting to receive our association’s highest honor than Debra Lee.”

Past recipients include longtime ABC marketing executive Marla Provencio, NBC marketing executive John Miller, producer Brian Grazer, filmmaker Spike Lee and actress Betty White.

Arguably one of the most influential female voices in the entertainment industry, for more than three decades Lee served as chairman and CEO of BET Networks, a leading provider of entertainment for African American audiences and global consumer of black culture. During her tenure she helmed BET’s reinvigorated approach to corporate philanthropy and authentic programming that lead to such hits as The New Edition Story, Being Mary Jane, The BET Awards, Black Girls Rock!, and BET Honors.

“PromaxBDA’s reputation for celebrating storytellers in media is unmatched,” said Lee. “This is why I’m so grateful to Steve Kazanjian and the entire PromaxBDA team for this recognition.”
