David Widerøe has been named SVP, marketing and on-air promotions at Ovation, the network said Wednesday. He will report to Liz Janneman, EVP, Network Strategy.
For the past for months, Widerøe has worked as a consultant for Ovation, helping the network to launch Versailles, a lush period drama that Ovation is bringing to the U.S. from BBC Two. In his new role Widerøe will oversee all of the network’s on and off-air branding, consumer marketing, on-air promotions and the creation of custom content for advertisers.
“More and more advertisers are looking to use storytelling as a communications strategy to emotionally connect their brand to discerning consumers. As a multi-platform media company, David’s role will be to seamlessly integrate Ovation’s artful approach to content creation with brands seeking to engage a passionate audience,” said Janneman in a statement.
Prior to joining Ovation, Widerøe spent 16 years at E! Networks. Most recently, he served as VP, marketing solutions in support of E!, E! Online, NBCU Integrated Sales and NBCU International Sales. Before joining E! in 1999, he was a director and partner at Multi-Media Promotions.
Meanwhile, Ash Steffy has been promoted to VP, creative services and on-air promotions from his previous position as director of creative services. Steffy will continue to report to Scott Woodward, EVP, programming and production.
Prior to joining Ovation in 2013, Steffy spent eight years at Disney-ABC Television Group.
“Ash has been an invaluable member our creative services team. He manages multiple staff and freelance designers, as well as outside vendors — always delivering media assets on time and on budget. His promotion is well deserved,” said Woodward in a statement.
