Last year was Terminus. The year before that: The prison. Now that the crew of The Walking Dead is safe (or not?) in Alexandria, AMC’s presence at Comic-Con is decidedly different in mood.

Not to mention that this year The Walking Dead brand has to play double duty. AMC’s zombie (ahem, walker) hit is being joined by Fear the Walking Dead, the companion show set to premiere this summer.

Some may say that seeing who shows up among the cast at the yearly panel is the show’s attraction at Comic-Con, but The Walking Dead goes far beyond that to make sure fans are paying attention each year.

The booth, for instance, is incredibly detailed, featuring a few locations rather than last year’s Terminus.

First, one side of the exhibit re-lives the infamous revolving door of death from season five, where fans had to say goodbye to a series favorite.

The other side of The Walking Dead’s space is devoted to the Wolves, who were hinted at in the past season and made their attack with loud music and trucks full of walkers.

Offsite, the show had significant branding at the Hard Rock Hotel as well, taking over the lobby as well as its elevator bay, which covered the entire space.

The show’s yearly Comic-Con key art also teases what’s to come for the upcoming season. Season six welcomes Morgan to the camp after some last-minute violence at the end of last season.

Its upcoming companion series, Fear the Walking Dead, set up outside with a giant graffiti church location just outside the Gaslamp District across from the convention center.

The walkthrough introduces fans to the world of Los Angeles before the virus spread, leading people through a churchyard to the interior where people have set up camp to live out the sickness.

Small hints to the plot are hidden throughout the church, with radios playing repeated warnings to residents and graffiti covering the walls. Attendees can also make their own graffiti inside and tag it for themselves.

Fear the Walking Dead has yet to set a debut date, but so far it’s announced that it will premiere in August on AMC. Completely separate from Comic-Con altogether is also the first Walker Stalker, a fan festival for all things zombie. Actors from The Walking Dead are appearing throughout the event July 10-11, including the (spoilers!) recently departed Noah and Tyreese, Tyler James Williams and Chad Coleman.

The event at Petco Park is not affiliated with the show, but seems on good terms - and also shows the immense pop culture power of the zombie hit.
