Comedy Central has renewed Awkwafina is Nora from Queens ahead of its Jan. 22 debut, the network announced during winter TCA on Tuesday.

“We are in awe of Awkwafina’s creative genius on every level and we could not be more excited to embark on a season two with the entire Lin family in Awkwafina is Nora From Queens,” co-heads of original content, Sarah Babineau and Jonas Larsen, said in a statement.

Awkwafina is Nora from Queens is a scripted comedy based on the Golden Globe winner’s life growing up. But despite its comedic nature, Awkwafina says her character isn’t over the top. Instead, she hopes it’ll inspire young kids to be themselves, especially going into the sophomore season.

“I made a point to draw on very true realities of my life, of my growing up, of who I am,” Awkwafina said during the show’s panel in Pasadena, Calif. “In the character of Nora, I don’t think she’s overdrawn in any way. She’s as real as I can play her.”

BD Wong and Lori Tan Chinn co-star as Awkwafina’s dad and grandmother, respectively, in addition to guest stars like Michelle Buteau, Laverne Cox, Chris Gethard, Stephanie Hsu, David Krumholtz, Natasha Lyonne, Melissa Villaseñor, Ming-Na Wen, and Jaboukie Young-White.

Comedy Central also announced an overall deal with Daniel Tosh, which includes a four-season, 80-episode extension of Tosh.0. The network also launched a dedicated Tosh.0 channel on the Viacom-owned PlutoTV, in addition to a dedicated YouTube channel that will launch later this year.

“It is a testament to Daniel’s creative genius and expertise as a producer that he can keep a series thriving for 16 seasons while juggling stand-up projects, touring, and new-series development” Babineau and Larsen said in a statement. “Through this Tosh.0 extension and first-look deal with Daniel, we are excited to keep working with him for years to come.”
