Exactly one week before Discovery’s Shark Week this summer, Comedy Central presents a week-long programming stunt that’s up a totally different alley.
This is not the first time a brand has jumped on the Shark Week bandwagon - Tide has launched Vines advertising that its detergent gets out shark-related blood stains, Grooveshark has taken advantage of its similar name and the Weather Channel has related natural disasters to sharks in the wild. But Comedy Central’s approach is slightly different, and kind of gross.
Shart Week, beginning Aug. 3 at 8 p.m., features episodes of “Tosh.0,” “South Park,” “Workaholics” and “Key and Peele,” among others, focusing specifically on poop jokes. Chris Hardwick’s “@midnight” will also run a #ShartWeek-themed #HashtagWars during its shows all week and Comedy Central’s social properties are planning to highlight fans’ “shart-inspired tales” Aug. 3-9 on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram.
It all ends the day before Discovery’s 27th annual Shark Week begins on Aug. 10.
