Today at NCTA’s Cable Show, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts presented X2, a cloud service that personalizes content more than any platform they’ve had before.

In response to viewers’ tendency toward binge viewing and their higher expectations when it comes to TV services, Comcast’s new X2 is a set-top box that stores its recorded content to the cloud, freeing up a lot of that space for more DVR-recordings and more memory. It also features a customizable dashboard and more opportunities for personalized recommendations, and similar to more of the newer user interfaces coming out, it integrates on demand, live and recorded TV in one place.

X2 will be available to Comcast customers later this year.

Brief Take: The X1 Platform is an example of what’s possible with cloud innovation. With the introduction of web-based content to the platform, and the promise of a faster and more integrated experience with X2, Comcast is adding more functionality to each screen in a customer’s home, and transforming its video product into a complete entertainment operating system.
