Comcast will launch a streaming-only TV service for its broadband-only subscribers by the end of the summer, the company said on Sunday.

The service, called Stream, will first launch in Boston and will offer live TV from about a dozen networks, including all of the major broadcast networks and HBO, according to a blog post on Comcast’s corporate site. Initially, at least, it won’t carry any cable networks beyond HBO, but later Comcast may add other features to the service, like the option to pay for other premium cable networks. Subscribers also will have access to cloud-based storage and Comcast’s movie streaming service, Streampix.

Once the service launches in Boston, it will then to move to Chicago and Seattle and finally become available nationwide by early next year.

Xfinity Internet customers can sign up online, directly downloading the app once the service becomes available in their markets.
