Comcast and NBCUniversal named Maggie McLean Suniewick on Wednesday to be its new senior VP of strategic integration, tasking her with spearheading the so-called “Symphony” initiative across both companies.
Suniewick, previously a programming exec at Comcast, will report to both NBCU topper Steve Burke and Comcase Comcast Cable boss Neil Smit.
NBCU’s Symphony marketing initiatives are designed to develop deeper ties between NBCU’s programming and content and Comcast’s cable platforms. NBC most recently used Symphony to promote its fall broadcast season, including “The Voice” and “The Blacklist” across its television portfolio and Comcast platforms, and the studio is crediting an earlier Symphony promotion targeting Universal Pictures’ “Despicable Me 2” with helping make the animated film the most successful title in the studio’s 100-year history. Suniewick’s first major project in her new role will be scaling the 2014 Sochi Olympics this winter across NBCU’s portfolio and Comcast’s platforms.
Before joining Comcast in 2006, Suniewick spent seven years with Oxygen Media, as one of the first employees to help launch the network.
Brief Take: As the shakeup continues at NBCU, the company is signaling that it’s serious about leveraging the synergies between Comcast’s cable and NBCU’s television portfolios.
