Amazon’s brand-new drama Z: The Beginning of Everything transports viewers back to the Jazz Age and into the world of American novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald and his chaotic yet inspiring relationship with his wife, Zelda.
The 10-episode series stars Christina Ricci as the alluring yet intractable Zelda Fitzgerald and David Hoflin as the famed author of The Great Gatsby. In the two-minute trailer, the pair explore their courtship and marriage, which proves to be intense from the start.
“I’m Scott Fitzgerald, I believe this is my dance,” to which Zelda responds with, “Well, that depends on what you’ve got in that flask of yours.”
The trailer is chock full of Lindy Hoppers, booze and debauchery (this is the Prohibition Era after all), accusations of infringement, and marital problems, with a person suggesting that Fitzgerald “basically married the heroine of his stories.”
Later on in the promo, when Fitzgerald introduces his wife to the press as Mrs. Fitzgerald, Zelda steps up and boldly announces to all present, “You can call me Zelda.”
Z: The Beginning of Everything made its pilot debut back in Nov. 2015 and was picked up by Amazon just over a year ago. The streamer has the first episode available now through Amazon Prime, while the rest of the series begins streaming Friday, Jan. 27.
