The tortured denizens of Sanctuary beg heroes for help in Blizzard Entertainment’s live-action trailer for Diablo IV, coming June 6 to PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and 5. The trailer reveals each of the game’s five classes – Barbarian, Sorcerer, Druid, Rogue, and Necromancer – each with their own special set of powers.
The live-action trailer – a rarity for video games, which usually draw from their own graphics engines to create promotional content – is directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, The Eternals) and co-directed by Kiku Ohe.
The big bad of the trailer is Lilith, the so-called Blessed Mother who wants nothing more than to once again rule over the land of Sanctuary, a place that’s constantly caught in conflicts between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells.
“Working with Blizzard, we had the wonderful opportunity to bring the dark, thrilling and imaginative world of Diablo IV to life,” said Zhao, according to Variety. “Diablo fans are very passionate, and many have been with the game for over two decades. We want to do right by the fans, honor the game’s rich lores and visceral world-building while evoking the strong emotions the players feel while immersing in the game.”
