Celebrities sort themselves into dream squads in this two-minute short film to promote season three of Activision Blizzard’s hit free-to-play game Call of Duty: Warzone.
Famed advertising agency 72andSunny partnered with up-and-coming director Gibson Hazard to create the piece. The short film features such celebrities as rappers Young Thug, Gunna, Jack Harlow, Saweetie, AJ Tracey and Swae Lee; comedian Druski; and athletes such as the Los Angeles Dodgers’ MVP Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Lakers’ Dennis Schroeder, national champion pistol shooter Michelle Viscusi and soccer star Jack Grealish teaming up to take out their enemies with guns and grenades.
The piece opens with a scene drawn directly from 1999 sci-fi classic The Matrix, with Young Thug swinging out of a building, shooters lined up behind him, to land in a moving helicopter flown by his friend, Gunna, who promptly blows the building. It then transitions into Jack Harlow and Druski in their own helicopter but not taking it that seriously until they are shot out of the sky and forced to parachute down.
From there, the piece swings to different action scenes, flowing seamlessly from in-game to in-home and back again.
The film went live on YouTube and across social media platforms such as Snapchat and TikTok. The campaign also includes beauty stills of the celebrity participants as their characters that they posted on their Instagram Stories.
