CBSN, CBS’ 24/7 digital streaming network, is getting into original programming with CBSN Originals.

Announced today by CBS News President David Rhodes at Winter TCA in Pasadena, Calif., CBSN Originals will feature a series of immersive, long-form reports launching January 18.

“CBSN Originals are the next step forward in the evolution of CBSN. Audiences are increasingly coming to CBSN for anchored reporting from the U.S. and around the globe, as well as CBS News content on demand,” said Rhodes, in a statement. “CBSN Originals will bring a new dimension to the service, with in-depth reporting specifically for digital platforms.”

The series debuts with a report from Vladimir Duthiers on the suburbs of Paris and Brussels following the devastating terrorist attack in November, while Elaine Quijano will cover critical issues in ongoing political campaigns leading up to this year’s election.

CBSN launched back on November in 2014, and is available on a myriad of digital outlets, including Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Roku players and Xbox One, as well as the CBS News mobile apps for Android, iOS and Windows 8.1, and CBSNews.com. The network has a median age under 40, showcasing growth in every quarter since its inception, delivering 33 million streams in the fourth quarter of 2015, up from 17 million in the prior quarter.

Brief Take: CBSN has already proven popular to younger audiences who want to stream everything (and is arguably the future of news programming). In the age where original content is king, this seems like a strong and safe bet.
