CBS will add two of its buzzier 2016-17 season additions in February, announcing the debuts of Training Day and Doubt starring Katherine Heigl and Laverne Cox, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Additionally, CBS is adding international co-production Ransom to broadcast’s most-neglected night: Saturday.
Training Day debuts Thursday, Feb. 2, occupying the 10 o’clock hour that’s been troublesome for CBS and other networks. The show will fill the vacancy left by Pure Genius.
Doubt enters the same hour on Wednesday nights starting Feb. 15. The series begins after Code Black wraps its second season on the network. The medical drama has yet to get a full 22-episode order, reports THR.
Training Day and and Doubt are filling the only true one-hour vacancies on CBS’ schedule. Ransom is a co-production between CBS, Canada’s Global and France’s TF1, and thus is less expensive. The show will get a premium premiere on Sunday, Jan. 1, after a football double-header, and then CBS will see if that sampling follows the show to Saturdays. Ransom debuts in its regular 8 p.m. time slot on Jan. 7.
Still on the bench are comedy Superior Donuts, a late order, and the second season of Criminal Minds spinoff Beyond Borders.
