CBS launched a trailer for its reboot of the 1980s action series MacGyver, featuring Lucas Till (X-Men: Apocalypse).
The series tapped James Wan to direct the pilot episode after David Von Anchen’s version was scrapped. Wan had originally wanted to make a feature film based on series, but agreed to stay on to direct the pilot when the TV series was greenlit instead. Von Ancken later took over the role when scheduling conflicts got in the way, but CBS wasn’t satisfied with the tone and brought back Wan for some retooling.
The new trailer presents an action series more so than a serious drama, and captures the classic resourcefulness of the secret agent: “How’s he gonna stop an airplane? ...Tin foil.”
The reboot also features the hero as part of a team, instead of playing the lone wolf as he so often did in the original series.
MacGyver premieres Friday, September 23 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
