Just six episodes in, CBS All Access has renewed Star Trek: Discovery for season two, the service said Monday.
“Star Trek: Discovery has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise,” said Marc DeBevoise, president and chief operating officer, CBS Interactive, in a statement.
According to CBS, the series’ launch was CBS All Access’ best ever, breaking its young record for subscriber sign-ups in a single day, week and month.
Episodes of Star Trek: Discovery drop each week on on CBS All Access on Sunday nights at 8:30 p.m. The first part of season one concludes on Nov. 12, and the second part returns January 2018.
Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Jason Isaacs, Anthony Rapp, Michelle Yeoh, Shazad Latif, Mary Wiseman, Mary Chieffo and James Frain. The series is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout, Living Dead Guy Productions and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts, Akiva Goldsman, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers.
