Sky UK and BBC Children’s are leading global broadcasters and media companies in its Hope Works campaign — a collection of short films aimed at children 5 to 12 years old that offer stories of hope and inspiration. Hope Works is collaborating with UNICEF on this project.

The project was launched after the 2016 Children’s Media Conference in the UK, where broadcasters raised concerns about kids’ growing levels of anxiety due to increased exposure to news and social media. Kids also are experiencing greater stress over self-image and bullying.

Lucy Murphy, head of Kids’ Content at Sky TV and Alison Stewart, former head of CBeebies Production at the BBC, are leading the effort.

All of the films launched simultaneously on the Hope Works YouTube channel on World Children’s Day on Nov. 20.

The above video, “A Whale’s Tale” by Cartoon Network UK, tells the story of a whale who gets his tale caught in a wayward fishing net. He finds a way to turn the mishap into an opportunity to clean the ocean, until all the trash makes the net entirely too heavy.
