Ash vs Evil Dead – the Starz horror-comedy series based on the The Evil Dead films – returns in 2018 with a horrifying plot twist for Ash: He’s a dad!

“He’s basically the worst father ever,” said Campbell at New York Comic Con. “Ash fights with the army he’s got; the parenting skills he’s got at the moment need refinement.”

But Campbell said his beloved evil-fighting, trailer-dwelling stock-boy character warms up to the idea throughout the 10-episode season: “Once he realizes and owns up to it, he is protective of his cub, there’s no doubt about it. I just think from a story level it can really help Ash become a little more three dimensional…because he’s not only now got to save the world, he’s got to raise an unruly daughter.”

Dana DeLorenzo who plays Kelly Maxwell, said her character finally gets her revenge this season: “It’s fantastic to see where it goes because a theme for this show for season three I think is everyone fulfilling their destiny,” DeLorenzo shared.

Apparently for Kelly, that destiny involves an “epic” bloody showdown: “It’s a rival to the Kill Bill fight, I’m just going to say,” DeLorenzo said.

But not to be outdone, Ash has his share of “disgusting” fight scenes as well: “I have a fight in a sperm bank this season,” Campbell shared.

Along with Arielle Carver-O’Neill, who joins the family as Ash’s long-lost daughter Brandy Barr, Lindsay Farris also comes on board as Dalton, the leader of an ancient order called the Knights of Sumeria who seek Ash to lead their fight against the Dark Ones.

Farris considers himself a fanboy of the original The Evil Dead.

“My grandmother, when I was 13 years old, used to show me two movies and one was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and one was Evil Dead so it was like a bonding experience… I’m just a fanboy who gets to be a fanboy in the show,” Farris said.

Campbell promised all the fanboys and girls a jaw-dropping conclusion to the upcoming season: “Everything will be different, really, really different,” he said. “You’re going to pick your jaws up off the floor at the end of this season.”

Ash vs Evil Dead returns to Starz at 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 25.
