BET Networks will start airing current episodes of Disney/ABC’s “Scandal” this fall, eight days after they first appear on ABC, BET and Disney/ABC said July 15.
BET will prep viewers by debuting the first two seasons of “Scandal” in August, heading into the show’s season-three premiere.
BET also has acquired the show’s exclusive off-network cable rights starting in fall 2014. “Scandal” is created and executive produced by “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice”‘s Shonda Rhimes.
A ratings success, “Scandal” drew a series high of 9.1 million viewers for its Season 2 finale on ABC.
Brief Take: “Scandal” attracts an average of 2.8 million African Americans each week, making it the No. 1 broadcast series among African Americans. With African-American Kerry Washington in the lead, “Scandal” fits right in to BET’s demographics. This deal naturally benefits Disney/ABC as well, allowing the studio and network to grab more viewers for the social-media sensation leading into its third-season premiere.
