Sony Pictures Television has partnered with the creators of “Breaking Bad” to produce an official digital book about the hit cable series, “Breaking Bad: Alchemy.”
Available exclusively on iBooks, “Alchemy” features more than 100 pages of original content and more than 350 interactive elements offering behind-the-scenes content and stories covering the series from pilot to its final episode.
Notable features in the digital book include an interactive timeline called “The Cost of Doing Business” depicting the history of the show’s characters who have died, as well as footage of pivotal scenes, exclusive interviews, reflections from series creator and executive producer Vince Gilligan, and breakdowns of key special effects and camera angles. The online element allows for the book to be updated with additional scenes and moments as the final chapter of “Breaking Bad” unfolds following its August 11 season premiere.
“I’m excited to shine a spotlight on the incredible people and behind-the-scenes activities that went into creating all five seasons of ‘Breaking Bad,’” said Gilligan in a statement. “This book is a huge bonus for fans as we go into the final season.”
Brief Take: A digital book is a savvy, efficient way to package a large amount of TV show bonus content under one online umbrella. This development is a boon for “Breaking Bad” fans and another nail in the coffin of the increasingly irrelevant DVD.
