April 4, 2004, a date the Army calls Black Sunday, and day full of memories many will never forget.

“No matter how much you want to,” says U.S. Army Veteran Carl Wild in a trailer for The Long Road Home.

National Geographic’s series, based on the book by Martha Raddatz (who is featured in the spot), tells the story of The First Cavalry Division out of Fort Hood that was ambushed in Sadr City, Iraq, on the fourth day of their peace-keeping deployment.

The show covers not just the battle that followed, but the struggle on the home front as well. It shot in Texas on a set that is the largest in operation in North America today.

“This is a project that actually cares about telling a story right,” says U.S. Army Staff Sgt. James Slevin.

The series stars include Kate Bosworth, John Kelly, Jeremy Sisto.

“I think it’s a real privilege that we’re able to be a part of this project,” Bosworth says.

The Long Road Home is slated to premiere in the fall.
