As expected, Bill Shine is departing Fox News. Roger Ailes’ longtime right-hand man is the latest casualty as a long string of sexual harassment scandals have rocked the 24/7 cable news network, and seen both Ailes and star news anchor Bill O’Reilly ousted.

Rupert Murdoch, executive chairman of 21st Century Fox and Fox News, revealed the news to staffers this morning via email, saying “Sadly, Bill Shine resigned today. I know Bill was respected and liked by everybody at Fox News. We will all miss him.”

In Ailes’ wake, Suzanne Scott will become president of programming, while Jay Wallace has been promoted to president of news. Brian Jones, executive VP of Fox Business Network, has been promoted to president of that network reporting in to Scott and Wallace. Shine’s co-president, Jack Abernethy, remains in place overseeing both Fox News and the Fox Owned Television Stations.

While Shine has not been accused of sexual harassment, he is accused of covering up incidents for the likes of Ailes and O’Reilly for years. He had been with the network for 1996 and oversaw such talent as O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren, who in January jumped to MSNBC.

Last week, Hannity tweeted:

Hannity was responding to a tweet by New York Magazine’s Gabriel Sherman that Shine had sought a public display of support from James and Lachlan Murdoch and had not gotten it, leading to plenty of speculation over the weekend that Shine was about to be let go. On Monday morning, Sherman tweeted that Shine was about to be fired and that was officially confirmed later by 21st Century Fox.
