Emmy and four-time Golden Globe winner Laura Dern (Big Little Lies, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Twin Peaks) and Tarana Burke, founder of the MeToo movement, are joining together to speak at this year’s PromaxBDA Conference in New York City.
Dern—who’s appeared in such iconic films as Jurassic Park, Rambling Rose and Wild, receiving Academy Award nominations for the latter two—received both an Emmy and a Golden Globe this past year for her role as helicopter mom extraordinaire Renata Klein on HBO’s multiple Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning Big Little Lies.
She galvanized Hollywood with her acceptance speech urging “restorative justice” in response to abuse and bullying in the entertainment industry and beyond.
At PromaxBDA The Conference, Dern will speak about how her life experiences have propelled her to become an advocate for women’s empowerment, gender equality, and balancing the delicate scales of work, life, and family.
She’ll team up on stage with Burke, the activist who launched the groundbreaking #MeToo movement that continues to reshape how we talk about sexual abuse and gender equity.
Together, they’ll discuss how to create real change, as more than 2,400 entertainment marketers and creatives gather for the annual event, taking place June 11-14 at the New York Hilton Midtown.
“At PromaxBDA, we believe change opens up new opportunities for strong and innovative storytelling,” said Steve Kazanjian, president and CEO of PromaxBDA, in a statement. “We’re honored to welcome Laura Dern and Tarana Burke as we showcase and celebrate the real change-makers reshaping our global entertainment and media landscape.”
Dern, the daughter of actors Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern, has built a lasting career that lives up to her family’s legacy.
An actress of great depth and range, she’s also starred in the award-winning and critically acclaimed HBO series Enlightened, which she also co-created and executive produced. Other projects have included The Master, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Dr. T and the Women, Little Fockers, and The Fault in Our Stars.
