On the one-year anniversary of Disney’s release of the live-action remake of The Lion King, Beyoncé is releasing visual album Black Is King, based on her soundtrack album The Lion King: The Gift. The film, which was in production for a year, tells the story of a young Black boy and his journey toward becoming king. Along the way, he relies on advice from his long-departed ancestors as well as his father.

Beyoncé wrote, directed and executive produced the film, which also stars Beyoncé along with some of the album’s featured performers and special guests.

Beyoncé‘s Black Is King streams on Disney+ on July 31.
