Just days after unveiling HBO’s 2019 programming lineup, BBC, in partnership with HBO, has unveiled the first look for its adaptation of Philip Pullman’s fantasy trilogy, His Dark Materials.

The 30-second teaser offers a glimpse of the tension, dark tone and major characters to come in the new series. The show plans to tackle all three novels—The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass—showcasing parallel universes, dæmons, and magical mayhem.

The BBC adaptation, in collaboration with HBO for American distribution, marks the second take on the popular novel series, following the 2007 film version of The Golden Compass starring Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman.

The show’s high-profile cast includes Dafne Keen, James McAvoy, Clarke Peters, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ruth Wilson. A release date has yet to be announced.
