Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol has always been a ghost story wrapped in a holiday tale. With Andy Serkis playing the creepy Ghost of Christmas Past, BBC One and FX really amp up the creep factor in this first-look teaser of the remade holiday classic starring Guy Pearce as Ebenezer Scrooge.

“Tonight you will not sleep. Come and look up on the evil that you did,” narrates Serkis in the trailer.

The classic tale is being adapted by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. FX Productions, Ridley Scott’s Scott Free and Tom Hardy’s Hardy Son & Baker are producing the three-part special with Scott and Hardy among the executive producers.

Besides Pearce and Serkis, Stephen Graham, Charlotte Riley, Joe Alwyn, Vinette Robinson, Jason Flemyng, Kayvan Novak and Lenny Rush also star.

A Christmas Carol airs on FX in the U.S. and BBC One in the U.K. in December.
