Apple TV Plus revealed sneak peeks, teaser trailers and first-look images from its spring lineup of original series, including The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, starring Samuel L. Jackson; WeCrashed, starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway; Shining Girls, starring Elisabeth Moss; and Pachinko, based on the best-selling novel. The announcements came during Apple TV Plus’ virtual panels during the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.
Apple TV Plus also recently announced new series orders for Dear Edward, a new drama series based on the novel by Ann Napolitano that will be written, showrun and executive produced by Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood, As We See It); and Presumed Innocent, a limited series based on the acclaimed book of the same name by Scott Turow that will be reimagined for the screen by David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies, Big Sky).
Coming up shortly is workplace thriller Severance, which stars Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette and John Turturro, and is directed and executive produced by Ben Stiller. Severance debuts on Friday, February 18. Also on that day, four-part documentary series Lincoln’s Dilemma will premiere, with narration by Jeffrey Wright and the voices of Bill Camp as President Abraham Lincoln and Leslie Odom, Jr. as Frederick Douglass.
Season two of anthology documentary series Dear … premieres Friday, March 4. From Emmy and Peabody winner R.J. Cutler, this season will explore the lives of the late Andre Leon Talley, Viola Davis, Selena Gomez, Malala Yousafzai, Jane Fonda, Ava DuVernay, Billy Porter, Sandra Oh, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Laird Hamilton through letters written by those whose lives have been changed through their work.
Premiering Friday, March 11, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey is a six-episode limited series starring Jackson and based on the best-selling novel by Walter Mosley. Mosley adapted the story for the screen and serves as executive producer.
Grey is an ailing and lonely man who is declining due to dementia. He’s assigned to the care of orphaned teenager Robyn (Dominique Fishback) and they learn about a treatment that can temporarily restore Ptolemy’s dementia-addled memories. That begins a journey toward shocking truths about Grey’s past, present and future.
In addition to Jackson and Fishback, the Apple Original series features Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, Damon Gupton, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Walton Goggins and Omar Miller.
Alongside Mosley and Jackson, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey is executive produced by Mosley’s producing partner Diane Houslin, Ramin Bahrani, Eli Selden and David Levine for Anonymous Content, and LaTanya Richardson.
The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey
Eight episode limited series WeCrashed is based on Wondery’s podcast WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork and is inspired by true events. Starring Oscar winners Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway, the series premieres globally on Friday, March 18.
Told in three languages – Korean, Japanese and English – Pachinko is based on the best-selling novel of the same title. Pachinko is written and executive produced by Soo Hugh.
Six-episode drama series Slow Horses is adapted from Mick Herron’s Gold Dagger novels. Slow Horses stars Oscar winner Gary OIdman, as spy leader Jackson Lamb. It also features Oscar nominees Kristin Scott Thomas and Jonathan Pryce as well as Olivia Cooke. The series follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in MI5’s dumping ground: Slough House.
The series is produced for Apple by See-Saw Films and adapted for television by Will Smith. Graham Yost executive produces alongside Smith. Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Gail Mutrux and Douglas Urbanski also serve as executive producers. James Hawes directs all six episodes and executive produces.
Slow Horses premieres globally on Friday, April 4.
Female-driven comedy anthology series Roar is based on a book of short stories by Cecelia Ahern and is created by Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive. Oscar and Emmy winner Nicole Kidman serves as star and executive producer. The eight-episode series also stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo, Emmy winner Merritt Wever, Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Meera Syal, Fivel Stewart and Kara Hayward. Roar premieres globally on Friday, April 15.
Four-part documentary series, They Call Me Magic, tells the true story of Magic Johnson. All four parts debut on Apple TV Plus on Friday, April 22.
Metaphysical drama Shining Girls starring and executive produced by Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale, Mad Men) is based on Lauren Beukes’ best-selling novel.
In the story, Kirby Mazrachi (Moss) is a newspaper archivist in Chicago whose dreams of becoming a journalist are put on hold after she suffers a brutal attack. When she learns that a recent murder is linked to her assault, she teams up with veteran reporter Dan Velazquez (Wagner Moura) to try to understand why her reality is constantly shifting. The eight-episode series also stars Jamie Bell, Phillippa Soo, Chris Chalk and Amy Brenneman. Shining Girls premieres on Friday, April 29.

Also coming soon to the service are season two of Tehran, which adds Oscar nominee Glenn Close and debuts Friday, May 6, as well as season two of Foundation, based on Isaac Asimov’s revered science-fiction novels.
