Brooklyn-based agency And/Or collaborated with production company Culture.House to produce the main titles and graphics package for four-episode docuseries, Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip Hop.
Setting the sequence to Queen Latifah’s song of the same title, “Ladies First,” And/Or created a lyrics, mortise and archival treatment as well as chapter headings and lower-third idents. The package is meant to reflect the personality and style of the artists mentioned in the series, including MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Rah Digga, Latto, Saweetie, Tierra Whack and more.
“By giving flowers to originators like Sha-Rock and Roxanne Shante or hearing real talk from contemporary superstars like Saweetie and Coi Leray, Ladies First: A Story of Women in HipHop contextualizes the history of the music that changed the world within the wider social, racial, and political landscape of the times and, crucially, through a female lens,” wrote And/Or.
Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip Hop, exploring women’s influence on and involvement in hip hop since the genre began 50 years ago, is streaming now on Netflix.
