Amy Adams stars as Camille Preaker, a reporter who returns to her small hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls, in HBO’s limited series Sharp Objects. As she tries to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, she finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely.
The creepy first trailer debuted Sunday during the season-two premiere of Westworld, and is based on the book of the same name by author Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl, Dark Places).
The series has been adapted by Gillian Flynn and Marti Noxon—who also wrote the script for the movie Gone Girl—and is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée of Big Little Lies.
Sharp Objects is Adams’ first major television role since she played recurring character “hot girl” purse saleswoman Katy Moore in the first season of The Office more than a decade ago.
The eight-episode season also stars Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins and Matt Craven.
Executive producers are Jason Blum, Charles Layton and Jessica Rhoades, as well as Adams, Flynn, Noxon, Vallée, Nathan Ross and Gregg Fienberg.
Additional writers include co-executive producer Vince Calandra, co-producer Scott Brown, consulting producer Alex Metcalf, and Ariella Blejer and Dawn Kamoche. Sharp Objects is an Entertainment One (eOne) and Blumhouse Television production.
