To help families in need during this crisis, ABC’s American Idol partnered with non-profit charitable organization Feeding America as part of a larger Walt Disney Television initiative. As a growing number of Americans struggle with hunger during the coronavirus pandemic, the top 20 Idol contestants virtually came together and encouraged viewers to “lean on each other” at FeedingAmerica.org/FeedTheLove.

As we discover new ways of remote storytelling, and virtual ways of staying connected, this was a remote production shot entirely by the contestants on their personal iPhones and provided ring lights. They each sang to a pre-recorded track and created an uplifting rendition of the song “Lean on Me.” Direction was given to contestants via teleconference by a director and by a music producer via a second device, and then the spot was edited together by ABC Entertainment Marketing.

American Idol airs Sunday nights on ABC.
