AMC Networks has completed its $1 billion-acquisition of Chellomedia from Liberty Global on Monday, significantly expanding its global distribution reach.

The deal gives AMC Networks an extensive portfolio of channels in 138 countries that reach 390 million households and span a variety of genres.

“Chellomedia has a collection of strong, well-established and well-managed assets worldwide and we’re excited about the long-termgrowth opportunity this acquisition represents for AMC Networks and its shareholders,” said Josh Sapan, President and CEO of AMC Networks.

The company believes that the Chellomedia purchase provides significant long-term opportunities for distributing original programming from AMC, IFC, SundanceTV and WE tv to a wider global audience.

AMC Networks COO Ed Carroll will lead the integration of Chellomedia into the company.

Brief Take: With such a wide array of channels coming into the fold, AMC Networks has the chance to vastly expand the global reach of many of its shows, while shoring up its existing international brand.
