AMC is celebrating final season of its acclaimed drama Mad Men by inviting viewers to reshoot 154 different clips from the pilot episode.
“It’s the end of an era. Be a part of it,” proclaims AMC, as it promises to present a final, entirely fan-created version of the now venerated pilot episode “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.”
Up to five different fans can lay claim to each of the clips—but don’t get greedy: fans can only claim one scene apiece.
They’ll then have 30 days to deliver their version, which has to adhere to quite a few rules to protect the Mad Men brand and integrity:
- You must be a US resident to participate
- Participants—both in front of and behind the camera—must be at least 18 years old
- Participants (including anyone whose image or voice is featured in the clip) must sign a release form.
- All your work must be original. You cannot use third-party sound effects, artwork, paintings, posters, photos, or video footage.
- Do not include any third-party brands. Be careful of logos on props, clothing, and backgrounds. The ONLY exception is if a brand is mentioned or depicted within your scene (e.g. “Lucky Strike”).
- Your clip should include audio of any dialogue or original sound effects, but cannot include any music.
- Keep it clean! No nudity, violence, firearms, or disparaging or derogatory content. Any depiction of consuming alcohol or smoking tobacco should be simulated.
- Shoot in HD, please. 16:9 aspect ratio and 1080p .mov file format strongly preferred.
- Going over or under by a few seconds is okay, but stick as close to the timing of your claimed scene as possible.
Mad Men returns to AMC for its final run on April 5 at 10 pm ET/PT.
