AMC is switching things up ahead of season nine of its mega-hit, The Walking Dead, starting with a new opening title sequence by London-based Huge Designs released Wednesday.

“The opening credit sequence is indicative of the new look and feel to the world this season and we wanted to give a nod to the show’s graphic novel origins,” said Angela Kang, executive producer and showrunner in a statement. “As we jump into a new chapter of the story, we wanted to present something fun and fresh for our viewers to reflect the changing landscape, where nature will be playing a bigger role.

“While our survivors work to rebuild and adjust to the crumbling infrastructure, the threat of the dead is constantly looming. And true to the spirit of our show, there are Easter Eggs for the fans to find if they’re looking close!”

Last season, two separate groups of survivors of a zombie apocalypse faced off in all-out war, with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his gang taking on the Saviors, led by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). At the end, Rick could have executed Negan, as Negan had done to members of his crew, but Rick chose to spare him. That decision is creating conflict among his clan.

Season nine starts a year and a half after the conclusion of that war, and the survivors are working to rebuild civilization under Rick’s leadership. It’s a time of relative peace but in world of The Walking Dead, nothing stays peaceful for long.

Season nine of The Walking Dead premieres Sunday, Oct. 7, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
