AMC Networks went with an in-house choice to replace departed SundanceTV boss Sarah Barnett on Wednesday, adding oversight of the to AMC President and General Manager Charlie Collier’s portfolio.
Collier will have the same title at SundanceTV, and continue to report to AMC Networks COO Ed Carroll.
The company said that the re-org made sense in light of both channel brands’ programming.
“Running AMC and Sundance under common management makes good sense for both networks, which are heavily focused on high-end drama,” Carroll said. “Charlie has done a great job in moving AMC to a leadership position in the TV landscape. He inherits SundanceTV at a time when it has gained momentum from its original programs like Rectify, The Honorable Woman and The Returned – which often pop up on critics’ top ten lists.”
Barnett was named President and General Manager of BBC America when AMC Networks took over operation of the channel in November. She has continued her duties at SundanceTV during the search for her replacement.
Collier now heads two channels with important programming events on the calendar.
At AMC, the final episodes of Mad Men begin airing this Sunday, and viewers who tuned into the season finale of smash hit The Walking Dead last weekend got their first glimpse of the highly anticipated spinoff Fear The Walking Dead.
Meanwhile at SundanceTV, the second season of its original series The Red Road, premieres Thursday night. The series is one of a handful of original offerings the channel has focused on, including the critically acclaimed event series The Honorable Woman, as it establishes its brand as a destination for high-end drama.
