Amazon announced Thursday that it is now the exclusive streaming home of the entire “Veronica Mars” TV series, giving viewers an opportunity to catch up on the cult favorite in time for the highly-anticipated movie debut on March 14.

The pact with Warner Bros. is designed to lure more customers to Amazon’s Prime Instant Video platform, since the episodes will only be available with the $79-per-year subscription service.

“Digital distribution platforms such as Amazon’s and licensing deals such as this allow the consumer great opportunities whether they’re die-hard fans who just can’t get enough or a new consumer turned fan who has discovered a fabulous show with dozens of new episodes,” said Ken Werner, president of Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

The “Veronica Mars” movie, which was only made after fans raised a record-breaking $5.7 million on Kickstarter, will debut in select theaters nationwide on March 14.

The original “Veronica Mars” television series debuted on UPN in 2004, airing for two seasons, before moving over to The CW for a final third season.

Brief Take: The “Veronica Mars” deal is the latest in a string of moves designed to make Amazon’s Prime Instant Video a worthwhile investment for TV fans and a more attractive streaming partner for studios looking for a Netflix alternative.
