Another day, another company getting into the original TV show game.

Sony is adding original programming to its PlayStation console, part of an effort to broaden the appeal of the device and make it more than just a gaming tool.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the original programming plan is on top of the online pay-TV service that Sony has already unveiled for the console.

The as-yet-unnamed TV service will also include streaming content from providers like Netflix. Users will also get personalized channel guides and recommendations. It’s slated to be tested in the U.S. later this year.

Sony’s first original show specifically for PlayStation will be “Powers,” a one-hour supernatural drama centered on a detective who investigates crimes that involve people with special powers.

The Journal said that the marketing plans for the new original shows are still being kept under wraps, with it remaining to be seen whether viewers will have to pay for them.

“Powers” is being produced in-house by Sony Pictures Television.
