It’s a club of names you probably can’t even remember: the first TV shows of every season to get the axe. It’s one of TV critics’ and reporters’ favorite games as well, trying to guess which show will go down first.
This season, the broadcast networks notably let shows run far longer than usual before pulling them. Fox’s Minority Report, ABC’s Blood and Oil and NBC’s The Player and Truth be Told are all good examples of shows that are ultimately doomed, but that the networks instead are going to run out instead of yanking them.
Still, every show cannot make it and this season, ABC’s Wicked City, averaging a 0.4 among adults 18-49, was the first to get the hook. In its place, ABC will air repeats of Shark Tank. Wicked City, which starred Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick and Parenthood’s Erika Christensen as a Bonnie-and-Clyde-like pair of serial killers, aired Tuesdays at 10 p.m. — well, for three episodes anyway.
Last year, the first show to be canceled also came from ABC: Manhattan Love Story, which turned out to be a story of disinterest for viewers. Two years before that, audiences ignored ABC’s Lucky 7.
