ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and spin-off Station 19 are dedicating their seasons—Grey’s 17th, Station 19’s fourth, to essential healthcare workers, some 7,000 of which have given their lives while working to save others during the pandemic.

The crossover promo features Grey’s star Ellen Pompeo thanking these workers, including doctors and nurses. The spot is set to The Fray’s “How to Save a Life,” which became the show’s unofficial anthem way back in 2006.

In fact, the pandemic will be written into both shows’ seasons, showrunner Krista Vernoff told The Hollywood Reporter’s TV’s Top 5 podcast. Initially she balked at the idea because of her own fatigue with the topic, she said, but ultimately her writers convinced her that “to be the biggest medical show and ignore the biggest medical story of the century felt irresponsible to the medical community.”

Grey’s and Station 19 return Thursday, Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
