“The hard part about being a teacher in the same school you used to be a student? The kids don’t respect me ... my former teachers don’t take me seriously … and I’m still learning all the rules,” says Lainey Lewis (AJ Michalka) in ABC’s trailer for The Goldbergs spinoff Schooled.

But, she’s determined to change that in the 1990s-set the comedy follows the faculty of William Penn Academy. It focuses on new music teacher and graduate Lainey, Principal Glascott (Tim Meadows), Coach Mellor (Bryan Callen), and young, enthusiastic super-teacher Charlie Brown (Brett Dier), who goes by CB for short.

Despite their eccentricities and crazy personal lives, these teachers are heroes to their students, says ABC.

The show is created by Adam F. Goldberg and writer Marc Firek, who serve as executive producers along with Doug Robinson. Schooled is from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios, and premieres January 9 on ABC.
